Friends of the Platte River, Inc.

A group that exists to serve as a forum to address issues affecting the Platte/Little Platte River watershed and to seek impartial solutions that restore, enhance, and protect this valuable resource.

 

What is a watershed??

The geographic area that drains surface water, water from rain and melting snow, and underground water to a shared destination. Because of the connectivity of groundwater, wetlands, rivers, and streams, activities which affect the water quality, quantity, or rate of movement at one location can affect the waters in other locations of the watershed.

 

Where is the Platte/Little Platte watershed?

The Platte/Little Platte watershed is located in the southwest corner of the state of Wisconsin. It covers over 350 square miles of land in east central Grant county and small portions of southeast Iowa county and northwest Lafayette county. The watershed is roughly bounded by The Platte/Little Platte watershed is roughly bounded by the municipalities of Potosi/Tennyson, Lancaster, Fennimore, Montfort, Livingston, Cuba City, Dickeyville and the Mississippi River and includes the city of Platteville.
